Blasts at Istanbul, Turkey airport kill 10

A Turkish official says two attackers have blown themselves up at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport after police fired at them.

Turkish media quoted Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag as saying 10 people were killed in the attack on Tuesday.

Turkey’s state-run news agency quoted Bekir Bozdag as saying: “According to the information I was given, a terrorist at the international terminal entrance first opened fire with a Kalashnikov and then blew himself up. We have around 10 martyrs (dead) and around 20 wounded.”

The official said the attackers detonated the explosives at the entrance of the international terminal before entering the x-ray security check.

Turkish airports have security checks at both at the entrance of terminal buildings and then later before entry to departure gates.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity per government protocol.

Emergency Landing at Hot Springs Memorial Field

Just before noon today a pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at Hot Springs Memorial Field. The pilot, who is reportedly in about his 60’s, was attempting a landing at Hot Springs’ airport when his indicator lights noted that his front landing gear was not deploying properly. He reportedly radioed the ground and was talked through an emergency landing by two pilots on the ground. The pilot of the plane was reportedly instructed to continue to fly over the airport area until he reduced his fuel volume to near depletion. He was then instructed to land with the “nose of the airplane” up. The pilot was successful in landing on the “belly” of the plane with no reports of a crash or injuries. It is not currently known who the pilot is or what the make of the plane is. Area emergency personnel were on the scene to assist in the event of injuries or fire.
