On 04/05/2017 at 10:15 pm., Hot Springs Police were dispatched to a single vehicle accident in the 600 block of Higdon Ferry Road. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle unoccupied and noted the driver had apparently fled the scene. Officers observed a large amount of blood in and around the vehicle, indicating the driver suffered injuries not consistent with the accident and then fled on foot. Officers searched the area but did not locate the driver or other occupants. Officers found a firearm and spent shell casing inside the vehicle along with suspected marijuana.
At 10:26 pm., a 911 call was received from a residence on Garens Street. The 911 caller stated a man was outside of their house claiming he had been shot. Officers and EMS responded to Garens Street and transported the victim to St. Vincent Hospital. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound and died at the hospital. The victim has been identified as 32 year old, Charles David Hill of Hot Springs.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident on Hidgon Ferry Road is identified as 20 year old, Demetrius Perry, also of Hot Springs. Mr. Perry had been transported to a Malvern hospital from the scene by a relative. Detectives were able to interview Perry before he was transferred to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, where he underwent surgery for a gunshot to his right arm.
Police are continuing to investigate and have information linking the two incidents/persons together. It is believed that Perry and Hill were together in the area of Garens Street when the shooting incident occurred.  Police do not believe any other suspects were involved.
